Professor Teresa Anderson Embarks on New Chapter
Posted 12 Sep, 2025
As of Friday, 12 September 2025, Professor Teresa Anderson MBE will be stepping down as Director of the Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement and transitioning into a new advisory role.
As the founding Director, Teresa has been the driving force behind Jodrell Bank’s mission to engage the wider public with the joys of science. Over the past two decades, she has raised nearly £30 million in funding; led the development of major capital projects, such as the landmark First Light Pavilion; founded iconic events, including the award-winning Bluedot festival; and secured Jodrell Bank’s prestigious status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Teresa’s ambition, passion, and unwavering dedication to making science accessible for all has transformed Jodrell Bank into a global beacon for public engagement. Her legacy of impact and innovation will continue to shape the Centre’s work for years to come.
Professor Duncan Ivison, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manchester, shared: “Teresa steps down having achieved so much and leaves a remarkable legacy at Jodrell Bank – not just for the University of Manchester, but for radio astronomy in the UK and internationally, and for public engagement with science more generally. It really is an amazing set of achievements.”
However, this is not a goodbye – simply the next step of the journey. Teresa will continue to support the organisation during the transition period and, in her new role, will remain a valued source of guidance and expertise, helping to shape the Centre for Engagement’s future in this exciting period of growth.
