“This isn’t a war… It never was a war, any more than there’s war between men and ants.” ~ H.G. Wells, 1898
Never has a timeless science fiction classic been so eternally contemporary.
Step into the heart of one of the most iconic sci-fi stories ever written as H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds is reimagined in a gripping solo performance by storyteller Gav Cross.
Delivered in the intimate style of a Victorian parlour reading at Jodrell Bank – home of leading space research – this abridged performance thrusts audiences into the terror and urgency of a world in chaos, consumed by the unstoppable force of a Martian invasion.
Through the immediacy of live theatre, Gav Cross brings Wells’ chilling tale to life in distinctive, bombastic style, honouring the storytelling traditions of the past while capturing the relentless dread and desperation of humanity’s struggle to survive. At its core, this production is a haunting reflection on war, fear, and the suffering of innocents: themes as urgent today as when the novel was first published.
Featuring an original, atmospheric soundtrack by Chris Bastock, co-artistic director of A Place for Us.
Running time: 90 minutes, plus an interval.
Recommended ages 14+.
Food and drink options to come.
AUDIENCE REVIEWS:

“As the story went on, it dawned on me how the story reflects the world today without it being obvious or cliché.”
