Our universe is filled with profound mysteries that continue to inspire awe and wonder. How did it all begin? What happened after the big bang? What lies at the heart of enigmatic black holes?
Quantum science, which examines matter and energy at a subatomic level, is revolutionising our understanding of the origins of the universe as well as our technological landscape. In Cosmic Titans, research and artistic expression interweave to create a curated exhibition of sculptures and photography, commissioned from artists in collaboration with The University of Nottingham.
Each artist has spent time working with world-leading scientists observing laboratory research in areas such as gravitational waves, black holes, dark matter, and the early universe.
The resulting artwork invites us to transcend our limited perception and envision realities that, while invisible to the eyes, bring us closer to understanding the intricacies of the cosmos…
The Cosmic Titans exhibition is on tour at Jodrell Bank from the beginning of May as a part of our new Curious Universe series, exploring the wonders of quantum science.

Founded by Professor Silke Weinfurtner and Dr. Ulrike Kuchner in 2022, ARTlab is an experimental workspace for ArtScience research and practice based in the Faculty of Science at the University of Nottingham.
The VIP Studio is led by Professor Helen Kennedy and supports researchers and artists to develop unique immersive experiences across a range of art forms.
The collaboration enabled the commission of multiple works of art being shown at Jodrell Bank. These works have previously been shown at the Djanogly Gallery, Lakeside Arts, and Science Gallery London. The wall texts in the exhibition were originally written by Dr. Ulrike Kuchner and have been adapted for Jodrell Bank by Julia Riley.
