Imperial War Museum

The Imperial War Museum collections tell the story of modern warfare and conflict.

The development of radar during the Second World War was the precursor of radio astronomy, and as such the Imperial War Museum’s collections are an important resource for anyone interested in the early history of radio astronomy.

In particular they hold Bernard Lovell’s own wartime papers (documents.2953), as well as an oral history interview in which he talks about his wartime experience. This can be listened to online.

More about the Imperial War Museums collections, much of which is available to view online.
