This summer, 50 of Cheshire’s young carers enjoyed a day out at Jodrell Bank thanks to the kind supporters of our Community Tickets scheme.
For most children, the school holidays are a time to get some well-deserved rest and to experience fun days out with their friends and families. However for a young carer, holidays can often be a very stressful time and they can miss out on day trips and activities. So, to support these young people, Cheshire Young Carers, a local non-profit organisation, deliver respite programmes during school holiday periods focused around plenty of activities and lots of new experiences.
We were delighted therefore to be able to work them to provide 50 young carers from across Cheshire with a fun-filled and fact-packed trip to Jodrell Bank!
Cheshire Young Carers’ Session Co-ordinator Georgia Bond said: ‘The young carers absolutely loved their day at Jodrell Bank. Throughout lockdown we noticed that many of the young people were really interested in science following an astronomy workshop that we ran, so to see their excitement to learn more about it was fantastic!
‘They were simply in awe of the giant telescope and really enjoyed learning more about it, their favourite part of the day was definitely the interactive talk. Thank you so much for the fantastic opportunity for all of our young carers, who are still asking us about the aliens!’
The opportunity was made possible thanks to all the kind and generous supporters of our Community Tickets scheme. -Each year, we make a number of Jodrell Bank admission tickets available for those that, for whatever reason, may not ordinarily be able to visit us. These tickets are funded through donations from individuals and other local supporters, such as Stowe Family Law.
Anyone can support the Community Ticket scheme for as little as £7.50, helping us pass on the spark of inspiration and providing someone with a fantastic day out. Find out more here…
