We have a unique, fascinating and important history.

From the first experiments detecting radio waves from space, to the discovery of black holes and the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence, Jodrell Bank has been at the forefront of a revolution in our understanding of the Universe.

But our story isn’t one of simple scientific progress. It is also one of pioneers, engineers, leaps of faith, accidental discoveries, collaboration, controversy, the impacts of war, international politics, Cheshire mud and an indomitable can-do spirit.

In recognition of our internationally important heritage, Jodrell Bank was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019.

In June 2022, we will open our National Lottery Heritage Fund supported First Light Pavilion, enabling us to engage more people with the heritage of this fascinating place.
