Half Term Admission

Important information: Monday 19th – Friday 23rd February

There’s lots going on at Jodrell Bank this half term, including a host of fun-packed events and activities. We expect the week to be popular and as we are also undergoing some car park development work which restricts the number of space we have available, we will be offering visitors specific arrival times to help ease any potential queues or delays.

Timed arrival means we can manage the car park more effectively and you can choose your arrival slot from either a morning or afternoon session. You can arrive at any time during your time slot.

We are selling two different types of tickets: Jodrell Bank car park tickets (which are expected to sell first) and Terra Nova car park tickets which includes free use of a park and ride service to and from Jodrell Bank.

If you plan to visit us during half term, we recommend advance booking using the links below. It will help us to manage car parking and will provide you with a better visitor experience.

However please note that you can still turn up on the day without pre-booking but we advise using the overflow car park at Terra Nova.

FAQS (please read)

What time should I arrive?
Your ticket allows a time slot for entry to your designated car park. For example, if you have booked Morning Jodrell Bank (Orange Car Park) tickets, you can arrive at anytime between 9:30 – 11:00, or if you have booked Afternoon Park and Ride tickets (Green Car Park), you can arrive anytime between 13:30 – 15:30. For more information, check the chart at the top of this page. Clear details about your arrival time slot will also be included on your ticket.

Where should I park?
If you have booked a Morning or Afternoon Jodrell Bank ticket, you will be able to park in the Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre car park (signed as the Orange Car Park). If you have booked for Morning or Afternoon Park and Ride ticket, you will need to park at Terra Nova school (signed as the Green Car Park) and take the shuttle bus to Jodrell Bank. If you’re unsure, check your ticket, it will say which car park you need to use.

What time do I need to leave?
An average visit, to include an activity such as a science show, takes around 2 hours. The last shuttle bus back to Terra Nova car park will leave at 17:30.

Where is the Terra Nova car park?
The car park is at Terra Nova school, just a few minutes down the road from Jodrell Bank. It will be signposted (look for ‘Jodrell Bank Park and Ride’ or ‘GREEN CAR PARK’) but the postcode is CW4 8BT for your sat navs, and you can view a map online here

How often does the shuttle bus run?
The shuttle bus between Jodrell Bank and Terra Nova will run continuously throughout the day. It takes around 30 minutes to complete a round trip.

So, will I have to wait for the bus?
The longest you’ll wait for the shuttle bus is 30 minutes. But, members of our science engagement team will be on hand to entertain you with some fun and interactive science busking!

How long does it take on the bus?
Its a short bus journey that should last no more than 10-15 minutes. While on the bus, you’ll be given everything you need to start your visitor journey at Jodrell Bank as soon as you arrive (no queuing!)

I have specific access needs which may make the shuttle bus difficult, what should I do?
We have disabled access parking at Jodrell Bank so please try to book a Jodrell Bank ticket. If these have sold out, you can call us on 01477 571766 and we will will do our best to reserve a space for you here.

I have made one booking with multiple tickets and my group are arriving in different cars, what should I do?
Don’t worry, this won’t be a problem, we have allocated enough car parking spaces to account for groups of visitors. Simply print your ticket as usual and bring it along with you (you do not need to print another copy for those that are travelling in a different car)

Do I have to pay for parking?
No, parking is free, both at Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre and at Terra Nova school

Do I have to pay to use the shuttle bus?
No, the shuttle bus between Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre and the Terra Nova school car park is free

It seems complicated, why is this happening?
We are currently working on a much-needed development to increase the capacity of our car park. Unfortunately the work we are doing means that, for now, we don’t have enough spaces for all our visitors to park there. We never like to turn visitors away or see delays and queues for parking. This is why we are providing an extra car park and a free shuttle bus during the busy half term period. Please note however that while we are working hard to prevent delays, we can’t make guarantee this won’t happen so please do bear with us at this time.

I have an annual pass, do I need to pre-book?
No, you don’t need to pre-book, but come along and we will endeavour to accommodate you in the Discovery Centre car park. However, if it is full, you will need to use our park and ride.

If you have any further questions or queries that haven’t been answered here, please do contact us at jodrell.visitor.centre@manchester.ac.uk
