Our award-winning festival of discovery, Bluedot, takes place next month (7th– 9th July) and once again, you can expect a cornucopia of knowledge, research, and learning, ranging from the depths of outer space to the future of our fragile planet.
Alongside a stellar programme of music and arts, last year’s inaugural festival offered a host of science talks, shows and discussion panels, as well as an incredible marketplace of science research – you could even take part in your own experiments. This year, we’ve added even more to the festival’s extensive range of science content and festival-goers can now get hands-on by developing new skills in our brand new Mission Control Workshop series.*
If you’re looking to learn how to code, why not join the team from OhBot and programme your own Robot Rap? Find out why robots are almost human – but why they’re definitely not – and be the hype-man for your own robot rapper!
Or, if you’re looking to expand your algorithmic knowledge, Sheffield Robotics will teach you everything you need to know in their Social Robots workshop.
For those who want to get more crafty with their learning, The Making Rooms have created a TOTEally awesome wearable electronics kit to build under their expert supervision; use conductive thread in a sewing dot-to-dot to create a circuit and send morse code messages to your friends.
You can even become an electrical engineer with Jodrell Bank’s Education Team in one our popular Soldering Sessions to make your own light-up Lovell Telescope badge.
And, If you like your learning a little other-worldly, Dr Pete Grindrod will take you for a VR journey On Mars. Get to grips with a virtual reality headset to explore Plan(et) B and discover the latest research from our closest neighbour.
So, for a cool and completely crammed cosmic weekend of immersive culture and science, get your tickets to bluedot
